Tell Us How You REALLY Feel......

You know that phrase "Tell us how you REALLY feel...." ? Well here it is. (I use "he" for consistency but there are lots of women this applies to.)
I'm so incredibly tired of people not wanting to take responsibility for themselves or for those they are responsible for. Have you ever had a boss who refused to be a boss? UGH. Lack of leadership in a leadership position is just irritating. If you don't have the guts or the ability to be a leader, then don't be one. If you can't look at an employee, team member, committee, booster club, whoever, and tell them to stop whining, stop complaining, or do their job, then you shouldn't be a leader. If you can't see the big picture of what you're trying to accomplish, then you shouldn't be a leader. If you're afraid of people being mad at you, then you shouldn't be a leader. True leaders have a goal, a plan of attack, and a relentless drive to accomplish that goal. They make sure their team has a clear understanding of their goal. They don't meander down a path of least resistance in hopes of maybe getting there. They chop down trees that stand in their way, they extinguish fires that threaten their journey, and they convince the nay-sayers to get on board or get out of the way. "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson~ If someone gets mad in the process, so be it. If someone can't get happy in the same pants they got mad in, so be it. And if someone needs to be fired or let go, so be it. Leaders don't let inexperienced team members tell them what to do. Listen to opinions? Yes. Ask for ideas and use the good ones? Yes. Work together and brainstorm? Yes. He knows how to use the talents of his team, but he also knows how to filter through the crap and use common sense. He knows how to be fair among his team and delegate jobs so there's no confusion about who's supposed to be doing what in order to reach the common goal. It's really not that complicated.... "A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don’t necessarily want to go, but ought to be." ~Rosalynn Carter~ So if you're in a leadership position, don't be a wimp. Be a LEADER.
