Robert had a new project this week. He put together Caroline's exersaucer which came in about a million pieces. But he put it together in record time and she loves it! The seat spins all the way around and she can actually spin herself. But I have to put a pillow under her feet because she's still too little to reach the bottom. She can't actually work any of the toys in the right way, but she likes looking and grabbing at them. She can chew on a few of them, which is her favorite thing to do anyway. But I think she likes it mostly because she can sit up and see what's going on instead of laying down on the jungle gym. Although she still loves that too. A couple of weeks ago she started doing something that I've never seen an infant do.... talking in her sleep. I will hear her on the monitor in the wee hours of the morning and she's babbling just like she does when she's wide awake. Only when I go in to see about her, her eyes are completely shut and she doesn't know I'm in the room. So I put the paci back in her mouth which makes her stop for a few minutes. But then she proceeds to talk behind the paci. So cute the first 10 times.... now, not so much. I have to just rub her face and head and pat her back and she eventually stops. But it takes about 15 minutes - just enough time for me to be wide awake...
So, her doctor scared the crap out of me at her last visit about the risk of SIDS. The risk is much less after 3 months, but still possible. One of her patients died 2 months ago of SIDS and was 4 1/2 months old - just like Caroline. So sad. We tried putting her on her back and on her side because I started to obsess about it. But do you know why babies are less likely to die of SIDS while sleeping on their backs? B/C THEY DON'T SLEEP! Just thought you might want to know that... So since that horror re-entered my slightly OCD brain, it's actually been comforting to hear her voice in the middle of the night, just to let me know she's ok. (And it really is pretty cute.) So that's all this week had in store. It was a pretty normal month for us. Say a prayer that Gustav doesn't cream us or anyone else. Hopefully some cooler weather will come with September. Hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend!
