Forced to Change
Life changes. In an instant, it can change. Whether it's direct or indirect, it can change drastically. And that change can be hard. I've written before about how people themselves don't really change, and I still believe that. Boy, do I believe that. People just don't change. No matter how bad they might want to, or you might want them to. It's just not likely. Can they become a better version? Can they morph into something slightly different for a little while? Probably. But ultimately, we just don't change. Humans are creatures of habit and change is very difficult for most people to accept, much less bring about on their own. So when change is forced upon you, it's exceptionally hard. But the beautiful thing about forced change is that no matter what happens, you must adapt yourself to whatever the "new" may be. Even if it's hard at first, even if you don't really want it, even if you wish things were back to the old way sometimes. You must adapt and keep moving forward. There is no looking back, because whether we like it or not time ticks on. The only option is continued forward motion, one step at a time. Whether the change is a new career, a new town, a new lifestyle. Whether it's brought on by an accident, a sickness, a tragedy, or a mistake. The fear and anxiety of the "new" will eventually lessen and the future will seem hopeful. The future will seem do-able. And you will realize that it all happened for a reason. That your "new" future is so much better than what your "old" future would have been. That your life, in a positive way, is drastically different than what you imagined it would be. And you can finally smile instead of frown, laugh instead of cry, and continue living instead of giving up.

Change is frightening because it is different, but everything is different until we get used to it.
